Sizzling Step No. 4: Join forums where creative topics are discussed

“What surrounds us is what is within us.” - T.F.Hodge

This topic is pretty straight forward. It talks about how your surroundings contribute to your overall development. In many of our counselling sessions, people complain of having a bad childhood where they have seen their parents quarrelling over multiple issues daily. This impacts them in such a way that they develop a phobia towards relationships.

I am sure most of you must be able to correlate this with your own lives. It might not be the same problem, but the fact is ,that a human brain continuously observes and analyses its surroundings. It uses the results to perceive the upcoming future. These results are not always negative. In fact, the technical term for this study is psychogeography. It is defined as the study of the relationship between the places that we move through in our everyday life and the effects that those places have on our minds.

Considering our current situation of living in the world of social distancing, where meeting someone in person is same as committing suicide, internet is our only way of communicating to the outer world. This can sound interesting to some, but is terrible at the same time. In simple language, Internet is a vast ocean of information, both positive and negative. Decision lies with us as to what kind of information are we willing to explore.

This small decision decides our fate as an individual.

In the previous 3 steps, we discussed about how to stay updated with the market, how to set up a goal and how to plan to achieve it. It's time to understand the next step, i.e. how to stay focussed on your plan of action. As already discussed, our choices decide our fate. Similarly, when it comes to achieving your goal, you must make sure your surrounding resonates with your target.

Let's say, you wish to become a good painter. But out of the 24 hours of your day, you spend 9 hours towards your corporate job/business/study, 8 hours towards sleep(Ideal sleeping time for a healthy living) and 2 hours of painting where you have your own list of ideas and you try and execute them. The result is not always the same. Sometimes you like the end result(painting in this case) and other times you scratch it off. When you scratch it off, you either feel bad or stay excited to start over the next day. As you can see, there are a lot of possibilities and probabilities involved in this process. These gaps lead to diversion from our goal.

So how do we ensure we don't lose track ? Answer is simple. Make small changes to your environment.

Such as - There are multiple forums on the internet such as facebook groups for painters, youtube videos on painting etc. Join them and stay updated. It will not only add to your knowledge, but will help you achieve your target without wasting much time in rough work. You will be constantly getting updates and notifications. These small changes will keep you identify your gaps much faster and eventually when you put your hands on the canvas, the end result will be sheer magic.

The above example was a simple one. The fact is that any goal needs hard work. For doing hard work, you need to invest time. And for investing time, you must focus on it. Our goal is to keep the focus. Success will follow eventually.
